The group’s performance schedule was intentionally left lightly loaded during the Summer months of July and August to allow the singers to take holiday breaks. However, the weekly rehearsals have continued throughout the whole period to enable new songs to be tried out for later in the year.
One of these songs is the Glen Campbell hit ‘Rhinestone Cowboy’, and this is being prepared for the performance on Monday 25th September 2017 for the Calne Day Centre – as it was especially requested for that audience by the organiser.
Rehearsals of this song are going well, as are the other newer songs of ‘Saturday Night At The Movies’ (The Drifters), ‘Sugar And Spice’ (The Searchers) and ‘Wild World’ (Cat Stevens).
We are being asked to return to Shockerwick House for two performances in 2018. Dates are now confirmed as:-
Friday 27th April 2018; and
Friday 12th October 2018.
Looking at our current concert list we have 26 concerts to perform in the remaining part of the year leading up to Christmas. Our next performance is scheduled for 23rd September 2017, and then we are very busy for the next 3 months.
We will be looking forward to a rest over the Christmas period!
We have received our first ever booking to perform at Hungerford House in Corsham. The group will perform on Wednesday 27th September 2017 between 2:00 and 3:00pm.
We have been booked to appear at Clift House in Chippenham on Friday 1st December 2017.
This is a regular annual booking for the group to entertain the residents at their Christmas Party. The party is always well organised – with a buffet supper for the residents and us, together with a huge raffle. We are grateful for being asked back to bring a little Christmas cheer to our friends.
We have accepted a request to perform for the Calne Morning WI at Marden House on 13th December 2018. This is the first booking we have taken for the New Year.
This WI have already booked us for the coming December, but wanted to ensure they could have us to entertain them again next year.
At the same time, we have been asked if we could include ‘Rhinestone Cowboy’ in this year’s programme – as a tribute to the late Glen Campbell. We will be rehearsing this song during the Summer period.
Today we had a marvellous time at the Chippenham Golf Club attending the 50th Anniversary Party of Tracker Dave Sperritt and his wife Geraldine.
The event was attended by family and close friends of the couple. We took along our partners and enjoyed complimentary drinks before an excellent three course meal in a private section of the clubhouse lounge. This was followed by a humorous speech from Dave who recounted their times together since the wedding day in 1967. Immediately before the group entertained the audience with songs selected for the occasion by Dave and Geraldine, Phil Hall sang through ‘After All These Years’ – a Foster and Allen song – as a tribute to the anniversary couple.
Anniversary cake was served with tea/coffee after our performance.
We missed having the company of Tracker Brian Elliot, his wife Gill, Tracker Dave Hackett and his wife Jackie. Margaret Dyke also could not attend the event due to a commitment at a wedding.
The weather was bright and sunny for most of the time, although a short cloud burst did send the golfers scurrying off the course for a period of time. But the sun shone again to allow the guests to leave the party in the dry.
Many thanks to Dave and Geraldine for organising such a successful event.
This afternoon we received our first request for a performance in 2018.
It came from the Calne Morning WI – who already have us booked for this coming December. Their members voted unanimously to ask us to perform again in December 2018.
Today we received a request to provide entertainment for Wiltshire residents that is to be held at the Civic Hall in Trowbridge in October 2017. Sadly, the request had to be turned down because the group are already booked for that afternoon.
