Feedback from Clift House Gig

Whilst shopping in Chippenham today I met a couple of ladies from Clift House who were at the Christmas Party last Friday. They both said how much they enjoyed the evening – “the best yet” is how they described it.

Next Gig: Shipton Moyne

Our next performance will be at 10:45am on Wednesday (6th December 2017) in the Village Hall at Shipton Moyne, Malmesbury where the audience will be the Thursday Club.

Yes. The ‘Thursday Club’ are meeting this week on a Wednesday – and this has been specially arranged so that our group can entertain them. We had prior bookings on Thursday that meant we could only manage this Wednesday. We hope to bring the same level of enjoyment to the members as we did with last year’s performance.

Fairways Care Home, Chippenham

This afternoon we performed for the residents of the Fairways Care Home in Chippenham.

There were a number of familiar faces in the audience – including Ron Morgan who is known to us through his membership of the Chippenham Male Voice Choir. He seemed to enjoy meeting up with us again, and he joined in (from his seat) with several of our songs.

At the end of our performance the Activities Co-ordinator Mary purchased one of our ‘Golden Tracks’ CDs on behalf of the residents so that they could be reminded of our songs until we meet again in the New Year.

Missing singers today were Nick Greene and Dave Sperritt. Our programme is shown below.

Christmas Gigs Off With A Bang

This week has seen the group perform four concerts in Devizes, Swindon, Bristol and Chippenham. Those performances have raised a total of £565 for our selected charity. In addition, we have sold 15 CDs with a total value of £90.

What a great start to our Christmas season of performances. Many thanks to all those who have supported us at those events this week.

Clift House, Chippenham

Last night we returned to Clift House for our annual performance at their Christmas Party. We have performed for their Christmas Party since 2011, and we have grown accustomed to fitting into the tight window space between the entrance door and the Christmas tree!

As usual, the audience was squeezed into the entrance hall area and had clearly been enjoying a few sun-downers before we arrived. Spirits were high for an evening of entertainment, and they certainly enjoyed our performance.

The format was the same as previous years: we sang for 40 minutes before having a break for excellent buffet refreshments; and continued our second 40 minute session whilst the residents tucked into their puddings. After our performance we were able to tidy the puddings area, and we all agreed we had enjoyed a really good evening.

Cambrian Green Court, Yate

This afternoon we visited Cambrian Green Court in Yate, Bristol for the first time.

The building was built seven years ago and provides ‘extra care housing’ in its 60 flats for around 70 residents.  It is coming to the end of a large refurbishment of fixtures and fittings, and our performance today marked the completion of the revamped lounge/dining area. Indeed, the final carpet laying was completed as we walked into the room.

There was a reasonable turn-out of residents for our first ever performance – which started at 2:30pm. We were told that the average age of the residents is 87, and they had  missed having any entertainment during the long renovation period. We sang for around 30 minutes before tea was served for everyone; we then completed our performance by around 4:00pm.

We were missing two singers today: John Johnston; and John Webb. The programme is shown below:-

  1. You Got It
  2. Sugar And Spice

  18. All My Loving

Derryck Evans House – Community Group

This afternoon we returned to Liden, Swindon to entertain the Community Group which meets at the Derryck Evans House.

There was a full house for the performance, with most of the audience in their seats as we were arriving. We recognised many of the faces around the room as those we had seen in June this year – including Pauline who had celebrated her 103rd birthday on that occasion. Indeed, Pauline got up again today and danced her way through one of our songs. Amazing! We also sang Happy Birthday to Francis who will be celebrating her 80th birthday on Friday.

After we performed the Glen Campbell song ‘Rhinestone Cowboy’ we were reminded of the darts player Bob Anderson who was living in Swindon when he became three times World Masters champion in 1986, 87 and 88. He would be introduced at tournaments with this Glen Campbell song, and it resulted in him being affectionately known as the ‘Limestone Cowboy’.

The entertainment was planned as two 30 minute sessions with an interval for refreshments. The organiser Val Barker had once again arranged for a special cake to be made for the occasion. The cake featured a photograph of End Of The Track on the day the group entertained the North Wilts Holiday Club in 2016. A second cake was handed to us for passing on to the children who attend St Nicholas’s School in Chippenham.

Today’s audience was the first one to guess the name of the artist who took ‘The End Of The World’ into the 1960s pop charts.

All present members of the group attended today’s concert. The programme is shown below.

The ladies gets together on a monthly basis at different Masonic lodges around North Wiltshire, and today the venue was in Devizes. There was a very good attendance for the meeting. We provided an hour of our songs before the ladies enjoyed their lunchtime meal.
