West Wilts U3A Christmas Booking

We have confirmed our first engagement with this U3A group based in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.

We will be entertaining them on Wednesday 19th December 2018, and we hope to have a massive turnout from their members on the day.

Return To Sherston for Boules Week

The group have accepted a request to perform for the Sherston Seniors Club in the Old School Rooms, Sherston on Tuesday 10th July 2018.

The performance is a part of the entertainment scheduled during the annual Boules Week organised by the village, and we hope to see some of the boules visitors at the performance.

Another New Venue For June Gig

We have accepted a request to perform at Wharf Court, Spa Road, Melksham. This is the first time we have visited this retirement home, and we can expect an audience of around 30 for the performance.

The performance is scheduled for Thursday 21st June 2018 with the intention being for us to sing from 7:30pm until 8:15pm and then have a break for everyone to enjoy refreshments before we conclude with a further 30 minutes of music.

We always look forward to seeing and entertaining new audiences.

First Mix Of New Album Tracks

Today saw the arrival of a CD from our recording engineer Pete Lamb containing his initial sound mix for our sixteen song recordings.

We are now in the process of listening very carefully to each track to see if any refinement is needed ahead of asking Pete to produce a master disc.

Early reactions indicate the recordings sound very good.

Sherston Seniors Club

Yesterday we entertained the Sherston Seniors Club in the Old School Rooms in Sherston.

We feature quite regularly in their entertainment calendar, but this occasion was booked at short notice following a problem with another artist who could not make this date. There was a good turn-out by our singers – with just Phil Dyke missing from the line-up owing to his holiday in France.

There was a surprise from the very beginning when we learnt there were four members of the club present that day with birthdays. After singing Happy Birthday to them we also discovered that one of them (Doug) was celebrating his 90th birthday; he was presented by the club with a voucher to be used at the nearby ‘Carpenters Arms’.

We always enjoy performing for this group, and we had the added bonus of having Roger’s wife and daughter present in the audience. This is a unique venue for us because it is the only location where the key words of one of our songs – Welcome To My World (originally sung by Jim Reeves) – is written on the wall. The audience were prompted to join in at the appropriate moment of our rendition.

Our programme is shown below:-

  1. Mr Tambourine Man
  2. Rhinestone Cowboy
  3. Save The Last Dance For Me
  4. I Can See Clearly Now
  5. The Rose
  6. Let It Be Me
  7. Bad Moon Rising
  8. Words
  9. Saturday Night At The Movies
  10. Fats Combo
  11. There’s A Kind Of Hush
  12. I’ll Keep You Satisfied
  13. Jim Reeves Combo
  14. Do You Love Me
  15. All My Loving

New Album Songs Recorded

Today we recorded our fifth album.

Once again we were fortunate to be able to use St Giles Church in Stanton St Quintin as the recording studio, with our regular sound recordist Pete Lamb travelling from his home in Potterne.

A lot of time goes into setting up the environment before we can start to record a song. This work has to be done by the sound engineer, but we did use some of that time to have group photographs taken in the lovely sunshine outside the church. Our singer Phil Dyke was the photographer, and he had to suffer a fair amount of the usual abuse in trying to arrange our positions. We look forward to seeing the results of Phil’s efforts.

The recordings began at around 10:30am and were completed by 1:30pm – with a refreshment break at noon to enable us to enjoy the sunshine. Sixteen songs were recorded and we may receive an initial cut of the recordings in about one week’s time.

Our sincere thanks go to Pete Lamb for his time and preparations. The new album should be available for purchase in the second half of June 2018.

Next Album Title

Well, we didn’t receive too many suggestions from our international followers for the title of our forthcoming fifth album – being recorded this coming Friday 18th May 2018.

The favoured suggestions that have come from within the group are:-

‘Timeless Tracks’;

‘Endless Tracks’;

‘Tracks Of Our Years’.

It looks like the title will be selected from this shortlist. Keep watching this space…
