Thank You For Swindon Performance

The following was received from the organiser of our concert at the Lawn Community Centre, Swindon on 23rd September 2017.

“Many thanks once again to you and EOTT group members for a very enjoyable evening of entertainment. The buzz afterwards from the people who attended was fantastic to witness so ‘thank you’ to you all. For example, Colin has always enjoyed your performances but in his opinion last night was the best yet!”

Autumn Season Kicks Off

Our concert programme for Autumn 2017 kicked off with two performances over the last two days: the first performance on Saturday evening was held at the Lawn Community Centre, Swindon; and the second one during Sunday at the Stourhead Estate owned by the National Trust.

Lawn Community Centre, Swindon – Saturday 23rd September 2017

This was our fifth visit to this venue. The previous years performances had been organised to raise funds for the Threshold charity – which cares for the homeless of Swindon. This year’s performance was held with the simple intention of entertaining the people who regularly attend the community centre.

An enthusiastic audience – which included a number of our wives – welcomed us our first half 45 minute performance before we took a break in their ‘Green Room’ for tea, coffee and biscuits. We then followed up with another 45 minute session that finished with a number of songs that the audience could join in with.

Missing from this performance was John Johnston due to holiday arrangements.

Scones and Song, Stourhead – Sunday 24th September 2017

The next day we travelled to Stourhead for an event organised by the National Trust to celebrate the two best elements of our english heritage: scones and singing! The concept was to have local choirs entertain the visitors whilst they tucked into their cream teas.

We sang in the courtyard of The Spread Eagle Inn between 11:30am and noon, and then in the courtyard of the Visitors Reception Centre between 12:30pm and 1:00pm. After a break for lunch we sang once again outside The Spread Eagle Inn.

That third session followed a performance by the Chippenham-based female choir named ‘The Harmonics’. A few of their members were known to us although we had never heard them perform before this day. We thoroughly enjoyed their singing, and hope that we can join them in a future joint concert.

Missing from today’s performance were Phil Dyke and Dave Sperritt.

Return To Chipping Sodbury

The Rotary Club of Chipping Sodbury have asked the group to play at next year’s concert for the town’s elderly folk. The concert is scheduled for Wednesday 9th May 2018 at the Chipping Sodbury Town Hall.

The request follows the success of this year’s event at the same venue.

Summer Rehearsals

The group’s performance schedule was intentionally left lightly loaded during the Summer months of July and August to allow the singers to take holiday breaks. However, the weekly rehearsals have continued throughout the whole period to enable new songs to be tried out for later in the year.

One of these songs is the Glen Campbell hit ‘Rhinestone Cowboy’, and this is being prepared for the performance on Monday 25th September 2017 for the Calne Day Centre – as it was especially requested for that audience by the organiser.

Rehearsals of this song are going well, as are the other newer songs of ‘Saturday Night At The Movies’ (The Drifters), ‘Sugar And Spice’ (The Searchers) and ‘Wild World’ (Cat Stevens).

Just 26 Concerts To Christmas

Looking at our current concert list we have 26 concerts to perform in the remaining part of the year leading up to Christmas. Our next performance is scheduled for 23rd September 2017, and then we are very busy for the next 3 months.

We will be looking forward to a rest over the Christmas period!

Clift House, Chippenham

We have been booked to appear at Clift House in Chippenham on Friday 1st December 2017.

This is a regular annual booking for the group to entertain the residents at their Christmas Party. The party is always well organised – with a buffet supper for the residents and us, together with a huge raffle. We are grateful for being asked back to bring a little Christmas cheer to our friends.

Calne Morning WI

We have accepted a request to perform for the Calne Morning WI at Marden House on 13th December 2018. This is the first booking we have taken for the New Year.

This WI have already booked us for the coming December, but wanted to ensure they could have us to entertain them again next year.

At the same time, we have been asked if we could include ‘Rhinestone Cowboy’ in this year’s programme – as a tribute to the late Glen Campbell. We will be rehearsing this song during the Summer period.
