St Nicholas, Chippenham

Last night we performed in a joint concert at St Nicholas Church, Chippenham to help raise funds for the church. We were joined in concert by the local ladies singing group ‘The Harmonics’.

The Harmonics

The Harmonics

On an evening threatened by Storm Hannah, the expectant audience filled the church and created quite a buzz as they waited for the concert to begin. The concert was planned as two 45 minute halves each side of a 30 minute interval. End Of The Track started the first half and performed for 20 minutes before handing over to The Harmonics for their first set. The roles were reversed in the second half.

The concert was finished with both singing groups taking the floor to perform the Carly Simon song ‘Let The River Run’ This sent the audience ecstatic with applause and it was a fitting culmination to a marvellous concert.

All members of our group were present for the performance. Our programme was as follows:-

First Half

California Dreaming

More Than I Can Say

Pretty Flamingo

Then I Kissed Her

In My Father’s House

Do Wah Diddy Diddy

Second Half

Hey Baby

Ginny Come Lately

You Are The New Day

Here It Comes Again

I’m Into Something Good

So Happy Together

HC One, Market Lavington

This afternoon we travelled southward to Market Lavington – a small village to the south of Devizes. This was our first visit to the HC One Care Home.

We had all arrived at the home by 2:05pm for a 2:30pm start, and at first we were alone in the lounge doing our set-up tasks. Residents started to gradually arrive from 2:10pm and it became apparent that most of our audience would be older than ourselves and many had disabilities.

Some of the early arrivals eventually became impatient at the delay whilst we waited for more residents to arrive, but we started our hour-long programme just after 2:30pm. With any new audience it takes them a little while to get used to our entertainment style but soon we found they were showing signs of enjoying our music, and a few amongst them were joining in with the singing. The songs that required audience participation went down very well!

Family relatives of one resident joined us in the lounge area and they were most enthusiastic in their appreciation of our songs. Indeed, they purchased a CD at the end of the concert.

Missing from today’s line-up was John Johnston. Our programme today was:-

1) Bye Bye Love

2) California Dreaming

3) Silence Is Golden

4) You’ve Got Your Troubles

5) Leaving On A Jet Plane

6) Daydream Believer

7) Sylvia’s Mother

8) Here It Comers Again

9) You Are The New Day

10) Let The River Run

11) Ginny Come Lately

12) Eight Days A Week

14) Can’t Help Falling In Love

15) More Than I Can Say

Monday Club, Glovers Court

This afternoon we travelled to Malmesbury to once again entertain the members of the Monday Club who meet at Glovers Court.

Most of the members’ faces are now well known to us – this was our ninth visit in the last four years. Recent illnesses had resulted in a few members missing our performance today. We asked if there was anyone with a birthday but unfortunately no one owned up!

We performed a one hour programme that finished at 2:15pm and we all retired for tea and cake. As usual, we were grandly treated to cake: lemon drizzle; cream scones; and bakewell tarts (GF).

We were very pleased to sell two CDs to one lady member – she asked for a copy of our two most recent albums.

Missing from our line-up today was Brian Elliot. Today’s programme is shown below. We are booked to return again in October 2019

  1. Hey Baby

Change in Supported Charity

The group were saddened to learn about the closure of the local charity we have supported from our very beginnings. The North Wilts Holiday Club has closed due to the relocation to Somerset of several members of their organising committee.

After some consideration we have selected to support Julia’s House in Devizes. This charity runs two children’s hospices: one is in Devizes; the other is in Poole. We decided that the funds we collect from our performances should go to the Devizes home – as that is the one most local to us.

We hope to continue the support of this worthy charity for many years to come.

River House, Chippenham

This afternoon we returned once again to the River House in Chippenham to entertain the members of the Daycentre. This was our eleventh appearance at this venue and we always receive a great reception.

The lounge was almost full today – the only one missing was our number one fan Laura. There were two ladies who had birthdays near to today: Beryl and Doreen. We sang Happy Birthday to them both. Beryl was in the mood for joining in with the singing of a number of our songs – we could often hear her voice above ourselves!

We performed The Fortunes hit ‘Here It Comes Again’ for the first time in public.

When challenged to name any of the members of the Manfred Man group the audience remembered the lead singer Paul Jones as well as Paul McCartney’s brother. However, they failed to name Manfred Man himself. This is a common problem with our audiences. Sorry Manfred!

Missing from today’s lineup were Phil Dyke, Nick Greene and John Johnston. Our programme is shown below. The audience certainly enjoyed the final three songs as they sang their hearts out.

1) Bye Bye Love

2) California Dreaming

3) Silence Is Golden

4) You’ve Got Your Troubles

5) Then I Kissed Her
